To determine the number of individuals living with diagnosed HIV in Metro Denver in 2018, we looked for evidence of HIV care, specifically a viral load test result, between 2014-2018. Individuals previously reported to be living with HIV in Metro Denver who did not have a care visit in that time period are presumed to have moved out of Metro Denver. CDC-derived estimates of the percentage of individuals living with undiagnosed HIV were used to estimate the total number of individuals living with HIV in Metro Denver. Retention in care is defined as an HIV care visit in the past 12 months, with laboratory results of a CD4 count of viral load test serving as a proxy for a care visit. Viral suppression is defined as an HIV-1 RNA level less than 200 copies/ml. Individuals who did not have viral loads drawn in 2018 are not considered to be virally suppressed in this formula.
