Operation Muchas Pacas busts major heroin ring in Denver area

In a series of secret, coded phone calls, two Mexican men who lived in the Denver area made arrangements to buy $102,000 of heroin from a man who went by the alias “Conejo.”
Conejo, which means rabbit in Spanish, ordered two couriers to meet Jose DeJesus Bernal-Zamora and Jose Martin Calderon-Perez on April 27 at Lupe’s Auto Body Shop, a cinder-block building painted with graffiti on West Mississippi Avenue. There the men allegedly unloaded heroin and replaced it with cash, tightly packed and hidden in compartments inside a blue Jeep Cherokee, according to a grand jury indictment.
