Fast-Track Cities

‘LGBT+ Danmark works for a world with equal opportunities and better well-being for all, regardless of their gender identity and sexuality.

The Danish LGBT+ population is subject to significantly more negative health statistics than the general population, particularly when it comes to mental health including depression, anxiety, stress, and loneliness. There statistics are the backdrop for all LGBT+ Danmark’s work. And that is why we support what AIDS-Fondet’s Checkpoint is offering. Here, LGBT+ people feel safe and welcome. It is a place where it is possible to get help and advice on topics that are often too sensitive to bring up with statutory healthcare providers.’

Head of Secretariat at LGBT+ Danmark

“In succeeding to eradicate HIV and AIDS, it is paramount to support LGBTI+ persons that live in some of the most vulnerable and marginalised positions in the LGBTI+ community and in the society at large. In LGBT Asylum, we hope for even better access to testing and treatment for everyone in need of it – especially for LGBTI+ asylum seekers and refugees in Copenhagen, Denmark and around the world.”

"We all share the same certainty: we no longer have the right to see and bear HIV aggravation when solutions exist. And because these solutions exist, we have no excuse for inaction. AIDS is a political fight, and I want to say it loud and clear: Paris is committed to end the AIDS epidemic."

Anne Hidalgo
Mayor of Paris

“Ending the epidemics of HIV, tuberculosis, and viral hepatitis by 2030 requires focus, leadership, transparency, and partnership. Fast-Track Cities are geographically and epidemiologically focused, exercising political and community leadership, committing to the transparent use of data-based metrics, and engaged in action-oriented partnerships, most notably with affected communities."

José M. Zuniga
IAPAC President/CEO

"We have the science and technical expertise to end the HIV epidemic. We urgently need to build an inclusive social justice agenda that extends to women and girls and other marginalized and excluded groups to make sure they share in the advances the world has made. Our cities are hot-spots of innovation, community leadership and political will and they will remain at the forefront of ending the HIV epidemic and reaching the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development."

Winnie Byanyima
UNAIDS Executive Director

"Cities are one end of the complex rural-urban continuum of human settlements. It may appear that the HIV epidemic accelerated in cities due to proximity and density, but it is in cities that we find the most promising and tangible solutions to overcoming the epidemic today. With a focused implementation of the New Urban Agenda and the urban dimensions of the Sustainable Development Goals, ending the HIV epidemic is within reach if we all work together within existing public-private-people partnerships."

Maimunah Mohd Sharif
UN-Habitat Executive Director
