Phoenix

English
Message from the Mayor

“In October 2016, the Phoenix City Council authorized the city to join the Fast-Track Cities Initiative. HIV/AIDS is an issue that affects everyone, and it demands an all-inclusive long-term solution. I am proud of the work the City of Phoenix has already accomplished but know there is much more to be done. Together we will work to end this disease in our city once and for all, and remove the unfair stigma associated with people living with HIV/AIDS."

Kate Gallego
Mayor of Phoenix
Message from the Councilwoman

“Everyone deserves to live a life free of illness and stigma. I am incredibly proud of the success and accomplishments of Phoenix’s Fast-Track Cities Ad-Hoc committee, but I know we still have a long way to go. Together, we will continue to work to end the HIV/AIDS epidemic.”

Debra Stark
Phoenix Councilwoman

And because these solutions exist, we have no excuse for inaction. AIDS is a political fight, so I want to say it loud and clear: Paris is committed to ending the AIDS epidemic."

Bucharest

English

"Bucharest joined the other capitals in the fight towards a world without AIDS. The people fighting the epidemics are supported by the courage of the others: from individuals to communities, from families to public institutions, everyone is involved in reaching this objective. The General Council of Bucharest is part of this fight. For us, solidarity and involvement means supporting those fighting this battle. As such, we approved the agreement between the City of Bucharest and ARAS – the Romanian Association against AIDS, which means HIV prevention services, but also social and professional reintegration for the vulnerable persons in the capital. We are aware that the road is still long, that we live in a world where marginalization and stigma are still present, but we work towards changing this environment and supporting the improvement of life conditions of vulnerable persons, regardless of sex, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, social status, etc."

Amsterdam

English
Mayor's Message

“AIDS is not over and there is no reason to lean backwards. But at the same time we should avoid despair, we have good reasons to be hopeful. Amsterdam will start at home by stepping up our efforts to ensure we will be an aids-free city in 2030. It is an acknowledgement of all that we have achieved in our response to HIV. In recent years Amsterdam met the UN 90/90/90 goals. These facts means a lot in terms of improving the lives of thousands of people.

But that is still not the case around the world. The reasons why so many people in the world are still denied treatment are almost never medical reasons. They are bigotry, homophobia, religious fanaticism, unjust economic systems, and indifferent governments. Our weapons are not just medicine and evidence, but more important, our ideals of freedom, open mindedness and social progress. We believe Amsterdam has a responsibility to share its experiences with other cities. If cities cooperate internationally (like in the fast track cities initiative) urban centers around the world will greatly benefit from exchanging success stories and lessons learned in striving for zero new infections. Amsterdam will do its part, let’s do it together worldwide.”
