Message from the Mayor

"Soon after taking office early in 2018 I worked with the City Council to establish Minneapolis as a Fast Track City. This issue is not only personally important to me – it’s important to the health and vitality of our entire city. I look forward to continuing this work with our community partners to achieve the 90-90-90 measures."

Community Leadership Messages

“Today we know that when people living with HIV are taking their medicines as prescribed, it’s impossible for the virus to be transmitted sexually. Our public health research is finally catching up to the fact that access to affordable housing is essential health care for people living with HIV. As housing and pharmaceutical costs rise, HIV’s disproportionate impact on these communities will become more severe. If we’re going to address this disease and get to our Fast-Track goals, we really have to be fully inclusive of the entire community that is being impacted by this chronic illness. People can live longer lives, but only if they are getting tested, and becoming aware of their status, and having targeted outreach."

Jake Maxon
Positively Hennepin

"As someone living with HIV and serving young people affected by HIV, it is an honor to be part of the City of Minneapolis's efforts to reduce HIV stigma, ensure access to HIV health care for those who need, and HIV prevention in all communities, especially those who carry the heaviest burden as it relates to HIV."

Cree Gordon
PrEP Outreach and HIV Testing Coordinator
Youth and AIDS Projects

"HIV and its impacts are of personal importance to me. I was happy to partner with Mayor Jacob Frey to establish Minneapolis as a Fast-Track City. My hope is that all people are able to connect with services and support by increasing testing, increasing treatment, and reducing the stigma of HIV."

Lisa Goodman
Minneapolis Council Member

“We are excited to see this strong commitment from the city to stopping new HIV infections and to ensuring that people living with HIV have access to life-saving health care and a city free from stigma and discrimination."

Matt Toburen
Executive Director
The Aliveness Project

"The coordination of resources, data, and action to address HIV is crucial to ending the epidemic and Minneapolis has long been at the forefront of responding to the AIDS epidemic. For the past year, community-based organizations, including JustUs Health, have worked with the City’s Health Department staff to implement the Fast-Track plan in Minneapolis."
